Organization and General Information

DreamHack Open September 2023 South America is a tournament organized by DreamHack and is part of a bigger competition, DreamHack Open, which is divided into three regional sections: DreamHack Open North America, South America, and Oceania. The DreamHack Open is a challenger tier tournament and is part of ESL Pro Tour, which means that the teams playing DreamHack Open South America, the tournament we are interested in, and the other sections will be earning points for the ESL Pro Tour Championships: IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne, scheduled for 2023.

The DreamHack Open South America is scheduled for September 22 – September 26, there will be 4 teams, and the teams will play in a best of three Double Elimination Bracket, and the Grand Final will be played in a best of five format with a 1-0 advantage to the team coming from Upper Bracket. The total prize pool will be $30,000. The tournament will be held completely online and will be streamed on the DreamHackCS Twitch channel. The host, the analyst, and the commentator are yet to be announced. The maps on which the teams will combat each other are the following:

Teams and Format

The event will start, first of all, September 02 – September 03, with the first Open Qualifier, where the first place will go to the Closed Qualifier; then, on September 04 – September 05, with the second Open Qualifier, and also here the first place will bring the winning team to the Closed Qualifier. Both the Open Qualifiers will start at 6 pm BRT.

The Closed Qualifiers will be played September 14 – September 16 and will follow a best of three format with a Double Elimination bracket. The teams playing the Closed Qualifiers will be 2 invited teams and 2 teams qualifying from Open Qualifiers. After this tournament, the first two teams will qualify for the Main Event: the DreamHack Open South America. The start time is, for the first day, 5 pm BRT, and for the second day, 7 pm BRT.

Here as we said above, is scheduled for September 22 – September 26, there will be 4 teams, and the teams will play in a best of three Double Elimination Bracket, and the Grand Final will be played in a best of five format with a 1-0 advantage to the team coming from Upper Bracket. The teams playing the Main Event will be, as for the Closed Qualifiers, divided into two groups: there will be two teams invited by the organizers of the event and two teams from the Closed Qualifiers.

Tournament Prizes

The Open September 2023 tournament offers cash prizes, and not only that, to all of the four teams that will compete in it. In addition to a $30,000 USD prize pool that will be spread among the participants, three teams will also receive a specific number of Pro Tour points according to their position in the tournament. Before clarifying the specific amount of prizes each team will receive, for those who don’t know yet ESL Pro Tour (EPT) is a pro circuit established in 2019 which links more than twenty ESL and DreamHack CSGO tournaments to build a ranking system that culminates in two Masters Championships every year: IEM Katowice and ESL One: Cologne.

The winner of the Open September tournament will receive $16,000 and 60 Pro Tour points, second place gets $8,000 and 40 points, third place $4,000 and 20 points, while last place only gets a cash prize, $2,000, and no points. Initially, first place would also be invited to Intel Extreme Masters Fall, but the event was canceled and divided into regional RMR tournaments.
